This Annapurna circuit trek is truly extraordinary, one of the world’s best in terms of cultural and environmental diversity. It offers dramatic changes in landscape, culture and climate. Following a careful acclimatization program, we head northwest over the 5400 meter Thorung La (pass) and descend steeply down to the sacred shrine of Muktinath in the Mustang district. From Muktinath to Pokhara you can enjoy terraced hills, forests, alpine pastures and villages from different cultures.
The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) working along with the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation have declared this region an area of conservation and sustainable development. Stretched over 2600 sq.km., the area boasts of a variety of diverse cultures, tribes and castes such as Brahmins, Chettris, Newars, Gurungs, Magars, Manangis and Tibetans. This area has sub-tropical lowlands, valleys, bamboo, oak and rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, windswept desert plateaus and the towering Annapurna Mountains. This area has the world\'s deepest river gorge, Kali Gandaki, lying some 6900 metres/22,563 ft. below some of the world\'s largest and most beautiful mountains as the Annapurna I (world\'s 8th highest) & Fishtail (one of the most beautiful). Animals and birds are in abundance in this region. 440 species of birds and mammals like the marten, deer, langur and the elusive snow leopard live in this area.

Day 9: Trek from Pisang to Manang (3500m)

Leaving Pisang, we have a choice of two alternate trails north and south of the Marsyangdi River which meet up again at Mungji. The southern route by Hongde, with its airstrip, at 3325m involves less climbing than the northern route via Ghyaru, though there are better views on the trail that follows the northern bank of the river.
